Gyotaku is Japanese for fish print or fish rubbing. Paint or ink is applied directly to the fish, and then paper or fabric is laid over the fish and "rubbed" to create a print. I use a variety of rice papers, mulberry papers, and whatever looks pretty at the art supply store. The prints are done in acrylics or oils and then embellished. Very often, my last step is to tear them all to pieces and reassemble them into the collages you see here.
Matted prints and cards will be available soon. Originals may become available for sale in the future. For more information email |
